Maureen Hill, the pillar of Madang community

The entire Madang Province is sadly stricken by her passing away on Friday evening, 28th July 2023 at the Modilon General Hospital.

A New Zealander by origin, Maureen came to settle in Madang Province in 1969 with husband Peter Hill. A teacher by profession, she has always advocated for early childhood learning as she herself started a nursery “Maureen Hill’s Nursery” which lasted for 51 years, teaching up to 4 generations, until her closure early this year.

Late Sam Inguba last respects in Port Moresby

The body of Late Inguba and funeral party arrived in Port Moresby from Lae this morning, June 17th and will leave for his resting place in Kavieng on Sunday 18th of June, 2023 at 3pm.

A Guard of Honour will be given tomorrow before he leaves for his resting place.

According to Dominic Kakas from the Police Media Unit, spoke to this newsroom stating that Late Sam Inguba served as Police Commissioner from 2002 – 2006.

Tina Turner, legendary American singer, dies aged 83

Turner, was one of the biggest recording artists of all time, known for hits such as What's Love Got to Do with It, and (Simply) The Best. 

She died peacefully after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, her publicist Bernard Doherty said in a statement.

"With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model," he said. 

The American-born singer left a hard scrabble farming community and abusive relationship to become one of the top recording artists of all time.

Seven dead after explosion and fire on France's south-west coast

Several buildings were set ablaze on both sides of a street in the seaside town of St Laurent-de-la-Salanque after a blast was heard at 01:30 local time (00:30 GMT) on Monday.

Firefighters are still searching for victims in two small blocks of flats damaged by the fire.

The cause of the original explosion is not yet known.

France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who visited the scene of the accident on Monday afternoon, said the current death toll of seven was only provisional while emergency services continued to search for survivors.

Auckland teen's death 'does not appear' to be linked to COVID-19 vaccine - chief coroner

In a statement, Judge Deborah Marshall said she had been aware of "ongoing speculation" about the cause of death surrounding the teenager.

"Based on the information available to date, it does not appear that the death in question is linked to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine," she said.

"However, this issue will be investigated carefully by the coroner and pertinent information will be requested from various agencies, including the COVID-19 Vaccination Independent Safety Monitoring Board."

Prince wrongful death legal claims dismissed

Legal claims had been filed against a doctor who prescribed Prince pain medication and a pharmacy that supplied him with medicine.

Dismissals usually occur after a settlement has been reached, but such agreements often remain confidential.

The 57-year-old died in 2016 after an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl at his home in Minneapolis.

Claims that had been filed against the Walgreens pharmacy chain and Dr Michael Schulenberg, who treated Prince in the weeks before his death, have been dismissed.

Chinese man falls to his death

Forensic police and ambulance workers attended to the mutilated body, which was behind a shipping container outside the hotel.

Homicide detectives extracted CCTV footage from the hotel, which showed the victim walking to a door inside the hotel.

He was seen walking past a clearly marked ‘restricted area’.

There was nothing else of his movements or whereabouts before his body was discovered.

Police said this is the only evidence they have of the deceased when he was still alive.

Probe into US couple's death focusing on toxin

The couple died while on a holiday in Nadi last month and infectious diseases have been ruled out as the cause of death.

Michelle's father Marc Canalog told the Fiji Times he was informed by officials from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that investigators were focusing on the toxic chemical paraquat.

Paraquat is a herbicide widely used in Fiji.

Organisations involved and supporting the Ministry of Health in the investigation include the CDC and the World Health Organisation.

     

State of Origin-related death: NCD police

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Perou N’Dranou, questioned why Papua New Guineans would put their own lives on the line for an event that they would gain nothing from.

Police in the nation’s capital have reported two major incidents related to the State of Origin (SOO) match on the 5th of June.

Both incidents occurred in the early hours of Thursday. The first one was a confirmed homicide case at Vadavada following a drunken brawl amongst SOO supporters at 2am.

“Deceased was from Chuave, Simbu, while the suspect was from Goilala,” said N’Dranou.
