2017 Milne Bay Day

This was towards the 2017 Milne Bay Day celebrations on Saturday, August 12, at the Sir John Guise Stadium and the Cosmopolitan hosted by the UPNG Milne Bay Students.

In a Facebook post made on the eve of Monday 14^th August, she expressed her gratitude towards the team behind the 2017 Milne Bay Day and the 2017 Milne Bay Nite.  

Compared to last year’s turnout of 5000 people, Chairman for the Milne Bay Day committee, Jimmy Segodi described this year’s as “an incredible turnout!”

He says one reason for such a turnout was the awareness, which started after the visit to the James Chalmers Memorial High School (JCMHS).

Upon learning of the dire need for facilities and infrastructure of the school located in the Fife Bay area of the Milne Bay Province, the UPNG Mine Bay students and the Milne Bay Community of Port Moresby started creating awareness of fundraising events.

In a statement, the Milne Bay Day Organising Committee say they are overwhelmed at the level of interest from participants here in Port Moresby and from Alotau.

“More than 10 traditional dance groups have confirmed their participation; with dancing groups from the ever-popular beautiful Islands of love – Trobriand Islands to the Misima Island dancers, the Duau dancers, the fearsome Tawala and more.”

Matron of the UPNG Milne Bay Students Union (MBSU), Jeanne Taligatus, in her welcome note acknowledged the representatives from the community that turned up for the launch.
