Who's on court on day three at the Australian Open?

Day three of the Australian Open is set to begin as we welcome the second round, with plenty of the men's biggest stars in action.

A cooler day with patches of rain is forecast for the day, in what should be a relief for players after previously hot conditions.

So who among the international stars and Australian hopefuls is on court today?

Big guns of men's tennis in action

Arguably history's greatest player Roger Federer is the morning's star attraction as he faces off against USA's Noah Rubin on Rod Laver Arena.

But before the Fed Express's match-up, centre court still has the small matter of Venus Williams' clash with Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele to attend to, before an all-German clash between top seed Angelique Kerber and Carina Witthoeft.

A number of high seeds are in action in the Melbourne sunshine as Elina Svitolina plays Julia Boserup, Stan Wawrinka takes on Steve Johnson, and Kei Nishikori faces off against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.

There's also something for fans of court showmen as French 12th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga pulls out the party tricks against Serbia's Dusan Lajovic.

Then to the night session, where it's all business for world number one Andy Murray, who plays Andrey Rublev of Russia.

The appetiser to that match is Spanish seventh-seed Garbine Muguruza's clash with USA's Samantha Crawford.

Kyrgios and Tomic lead the Aussie charge

Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic will be looking to grab the headlines for all the right reasons today as they look to reach the third round in Melbourne.

Australians in action on day three:

  • Jaimee Fourlis v Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS) [8]
  • Alex De Minaur v Sam Querrey (USA) [ 31]

Night session:

  • Nick Kyrgios [14] v Andreas Seppi (ITA)
  • Ashleigh Barty v Shelby Rogers (USA)
  • Bernard Tomic [27] v Victor Estrella Burgos (DOM)

Kyrgios will feature in the twilight session on HiSense Arena when he faces Italian contender Andreas Seppi, before Bernard Tomic plays Victor Estrella Burgos of Dominican Republic on Margaret Court.

Tomic's tussle is preceded by Ash Barty's match against Simona Halep's American conqueror Shelby Rogers.

First up in the morning, Jamie Fourlis will try her luck against eighth-seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia on Magaret Court.

Alex De Minaur will also try to defy the odds on Show Court 2 as he takes on American 31st seed Sam Querrey.
