PNG Football Association has fully endorsed the OFC Referee Level 1 Course currently underway in Port Moresby and Lae.
President John Kapi Natto said he supported the FIFA/OFC sanctioned course to help educate the referees and so it this help them improve performance of refereeing standard in the country.
The course is targeted at referees who are doing well in their respective member association’s competition to test their skills and knowledge at the OFC courses.
PNGFA General Secretary Pius Letenge expressed the same sentiment stating PNGFA under the leadership of Kapi Natto has been conducting basic MA Referee course throughout the country and now the FIFA/OFC referee course.
He urged all participants to learn as much as they can to utilized their skills and knowledge once the opportunity present itself in future.
Letenge stressed that refereeing is also an important component of the game so he urged everyone to give their best time to learn as much as they can during the one-week course.
He commended the local coordinators in Port Moresby and Lae for taking the lead in facilitating the course.
PNGFA General Secretariat, Paias Letenge wants to see all elite referees to take lead like those in Port Moresby namely Hilary Ani, Sosogan Salaiau, David Yereboerin and Charles David who are organized and working together for the good of refereeing.
Meanwhile the PNGFA Head of Refeering, Jimmy Warai said the course in Port Moresby is online via zoom with FIFA/OFC Instructors Neil Poloso and Kevin Stoltenkemp.
Warai said this will be his first course as FIFA/OFC Instructor to be conducted in the country which is attended by 35 participants from Highlands and Northern regions.
The Port Moresby course have 27 participants from NGI and Southern regions.
The Port Moresby course has two representatives each from Kimbe, NBPOL, Buka and one from Manus to join the Port Moresby, NCDPSSA and Koupa for the referee course.
The course started on Monday and will finish on Thursday.
