Barras fall short by 30 runs

An unbeaten 72 from Mahuru Dai was not enough as the Hebou PNG Barramundis fell by 30 runs to Victoria in a T20 encounter at Maroochydore, Queensland, yesterday.

Runs from Cameron White (26) and Sam Harper (46*) helped Victoria to finish at 6/187.

Norman Vanua (2/39), Assad Vala (1/22), Alei Nao (1/24) and Mahuru Dai (1/32) were the wicket takers for the Barras.

In their run chase, the Barras lost early wickets easily to slump to 6/69.

All-rounder Dai gave the Barras a glimmer of hope, smashing six 4s and three 6s for his knock of 72 runs.

But it still wasn’t enough with the Barras running out of overs to lose by 30 runs. The Barras finished at 9/157.

The Barras have a couple of days off in Maroochydore before flying to Darwin this Sunday for the second part of the tour.

Their next match will be a 2-day encounter against NT Invitational in Darwin on Tuesday 12-Wednesday 13.
