Police nab murder suspect

The ‘Policing the Police Task Force Team’ has apprehended the alleged killer of Grace Gavera, 26, from Central Province.

Andy Paro was apprehended on November 28th at around 10.25pm at the Erima Settlement in the National Capital District.

Paro, who hails from Hetani Village, Koroba/Kopiago in the Hela Province, was alleged to have assaulted his 26-year-old girlfriend at Erima in the early hours of November 26th.

Gavera, who worked at the Accounts section of the Education Department, rented a place at Erima. According to the landlord, Paro came at around 2am on November 26th and began arguing with her and allegedly started beating her.

She was rushed to Port Moresby General Hospital. However, the suspect allegedly followed her there and took her out of the hospital where he allegedly continued to assault her until she died.

According to the victim’s family, this was not the first time the suspect has assaulted her. They were in a relationship for two years and he had allegedly beaten her several times during that time.

The family encouraged her to leave him however, the suspect allegedly threatened her every time she tried to leave him.

Members of the Policing the Police Task Force Team at Gordon conducted a surveillance around Erima and raided the Erima Settlement on Wednesday night and apprehended the suspect.

He has been handed over to CID Homicide to process the case.
