POMNATHS hosts fun day

The Port Moresby National High School aims to keep its reputation as one of the top schools, not only academically, but socially and culturally as well.

The school hosted its fun day today with a fair share of cultural singsing.

Unlike the yearly Hahenamo held in past years, the fun day is not focused specifically on the cultural aspect.

It was organised by the school's Student Representative Council as a socialising event.

The day featured 13 singsing groups representing four regions of the country.

It is also a fundraiser, as explained by Mamun Hossain - SRC chairperson for sports, also one of the organisers.

"At the end of the year, grade 12s have a formal ball. We have three more weeks to the exam date before we are done.

“So the revenue generated from this event will go towards hosting this ball. And we are so grateful for everyone's participation and help," Hossain said.

The day kicked off to a slow start but picked up as more cultural groups took the arena.

Sepik students set the momentum, the Trobriand dancers took it up a notch and West Papua group hit the climax.

School merchandises were on sale alongside cultural dishes.

The event also saw local entertainment by DPJ and and Kronos, Kanaka outlaws, in-house DJ by a student and student groups putting on other hip-hop dances.

"It is a successful event," said Hossain.
