POMNATS hosts ‘hahenamo’

The Hahenamo is “celebration” in Motu. It is accorded to the annual cultural day held by Port Moresby National High School around June to mark the foundation day of the school.

A Grade 12 student said it is interesting to note that the young generation of today are concerned about preserving their culture.

POM schools career expo underway

The weeklong expo, which commenced yesterday, is deemed as a one stop shop for vital information required by Grade 12 students when they select their preferences for higher learning institutions.

Information is power. That is the tagline of the expo this year.

With just 2 months away from sitting their final examinations, Grade 12 students will be required to fill in the school leaver form.

POMNATHS hosts fun day

The school hosted its fun day today with a fair share of cultural singsing.

Unlike the yearly Hahenamo held in past years, the fun day is not focused specifically on the cultural aspect.

It was organised by the school's Student Representative Council as a socialising event.

The day featured 13 singsing groups representing four regions of the country.

It is also a fundraiser, as explained by Mamun Hossain - SRC chairperson for sports, also one of the organisers.

Students disappointed with unis

The expo this year has seen only three universities participate: Pacific Adventist University, University of Papua New Guinea and Divine Word University.

Gavena Gwaibo, the host school’s deputy principal (Port Moresby National High School), who is also on the expo committee, said University of Goroka, University of Technology and the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment did not turn up even though they were invited.

POM career expo underway

The one week expo started on Monday, August 14, and will end on Friday, August 18.

The event has seen a number of tertiary institutions set up booths at the school hall where students visit. These participants include three universities and mostly private institutions.

The event is organised and coordinated yearly by a career expo committee, which is made up of a representative from each secondary school in NCD.
