Tangit reinstated, but Mangos locked out

Suspended Chief Executive officer of PNG Power Limited John Tangit has been reinstated into office as off midday today.

A circular issued to the staff of PNG Power today confirmed this.

Tangit was suspended last year after the failed rural electrification project in the Angoram District of East Sepik Province was raised in Parliament by the local MP Salio Waipo.

While Tangit was reinstated as per a circular today, the National Executive Council yesterday reinstated John Mangos as the Executive Director of PNG Power.

However, news of Mangos reinstatement was not welcomed at the PPL head office at Hohola this morning when he was prevented from entering the office gates.

Guards manned the PPL gates this morning stopping Mangos vehicle from entering both gates of the head office.

Loop PNG was informed Mangos was prevented from entering the office until he provides an NEC Gazette notice following the NEC’s decision yesterday to reinstate him.

Mangos when contacted by Loop PNG opted to reserve his comments at this stage regarding the incident this morning.

Meanwhile, the substantive hearing at the National Court still remains as to whether the PPL Board had the power to terminate Mangos’ employment.

He was suspended on Sept 29, 2015 and purportedly terminated on Dec 4, 2015. That termination remains an issue the National Court is yet to determine.

On Feb 19, the Waigani Committal Court dismissed allegations against Mangos of false pretence and the dishonest application of K30,000 belonging to PNG Power Limited last year.

The Court found that the charges against the accused lacked sufficient evidence and did not pin point Mangos by means of false pretence giving directions to PNG Power or signing any cheques to the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations to pay for his work permit.
