Queensland outrun Barras by 94 runs

The Hebou PNG Barramundis went down to Queensland in their final 50 Over match yesterday by 94 runs at Maroochydore Cricket Ground.

The Barramundis had a target of 255 but started the chase badly in the opening with 6/67 with none of the top five batsmen reaching double figures, before being bowled out for 161 inside 42 overs.

Norman Vanua (35), Dogodo Bau (26) and Mahuru Dai (25) were the main contributors with the bat for the Hebou PNG Barramundis, while Prestwidge (3/40), Steketee (2/16) and Mullen (2/44) were the pick of the Queensland bowlers.

After the match, former Australian Test Opening Batsman and current Queensland Bulls Head Coach, Phil Jaques reflected on the match.

“It was a nice competitive against the Barramundis. I thought the conditions, with the pitch being a bit low and a bit slow, meant that both teams had to be playing smart cricket, and PNG did their best to slow down our scoring after Joe Burns had given us a platform to attack with his century,” said Jaques.

"It was a pleasure to play against the Barramundis and certainly we wish them the best for their next engagement. Hopefully this experience will assist them," Jaques added.

The Barramundis will return to Port Moresby today before flying out to Darwin/Adelaide to take part in the annual South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) Premier League next week.

Returning from the Darwin/Adelaide trip they will focus their attention to the home Inter-Continental (I-Cup) and World Cricket League Championships (WCLC) matches against Namibia which will take place in October.
