Oro Butterflies move closer to finals in Pom league

Oro Butterflies are one step ahead in making the top eight teams for the final playoffs of the Port Moresby Rugby League competition.

Butterflies defeated Paga Panthers 18-4 today in the A Grade division at the Murray Barracks oval in the final round of the competition.

In the hot weather and strong winds, Butterflies didn’t let the dry conditions stop them from scoring four tries to Panthers’ one try.

Butterflies were the first to score through Jeromy Benny followed by a successful conversion  which had them leading 6-0 just ten minutes into the game.

Butterflies took advantage of Panthers’ weak defence to score another try through captain Moses Mosmina.

An unsuccessful conversion left them at 10-0 which they maintained until half time.

With pressure on in the second half, Panthers bounced back to score early in the second half, making the scoreline read 10-4 following an unsuccessful kick.

Butterflies fought back to score two close tries to take them to victory 18-4 after two failed conversions.

In other results, Brothers defeated Souths 12-4, Kone Storm thrashed Magani 10-0 and Panthers beat Butterflies 10-6 in the U19 division.
