Malalaua to Kerema highway sealing needs funding

The second phase of the Trans Highway road sealing is undergoing a slow progress currently as funds are yet to be available.

The first phase of the construction from Malalaua station to Epo sealing was completed a month ago, however, the second phase from Epo to Kerema town has seen slow progress as the National Government is yet to release funds.

As a National Government project supported by the Gulf Provincial Government and the Dekenai Construction company, the second phase is still awaiting the release of funds from the government.

An unnamed official from the Gulf Provincial Government told PNG Loop that the second phase which is about 10km and costs roughly around K10 million has been upgraded and ready to be sealed as the tar and core for sealing is yet be set due to the delay in funds.

However, as soon as the funds are made available the construction will be underway and is hoped to be completed before the year ends.
