Case against late Okuk withdrawn

A case of grievous bodily harm against the late Tangil Douglas Okuk has been dismissed from the Waigani Committal Court following his death on July 27.

The information against the late Okuk was dismissed today after the court was asked to do so by the late Okuk’s lawyer, Samson Javati.

Javati was unable to provide a death certificate however, he presented a newspaper notice of the funeral service program of the late Okuk. He passed on after a long illness on July 27.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar withdrew the information charging Okuk, dismissed the case and ordered a refund of K500 bail.

According to court records, the 54-year-old of Povi village, Kundiawa, Chimbu Province, first appeared in the District Court on May 31.

He appeared on allegations he physically assaulted an expat, Santharasegeran Suburaminian, at the car park of the Department of Lands and Physical Planning office on March 10 this year. He allegedly punched the expat in the head, eye and nose, resulting in the complainant falling unconscious on the concrete footpath.
