Ward Councillors

LLG leaders paid outstanding allowances

DPLLG Secretary Philip Leo in a media statement informed councillors that their long overdue allowance from April to August this year was paid. Ward members received K3000 each while deputy presidents received K3500 each.

The Department has also paid the remaining months of September to December 2023 on 6th December 2023.

Delayed wages for councillors partly blamed on failed elections

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said in Parliament last week that councilors who didn’t complete the election process and also disputes in many provinces had caused complications.

He said those failed elections were not conducted and there have been problems including some disputes and court cases that have delayed the payment of wages.

O’Neill said that he will get the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Provincial and Local Level Governments Leo Dion to make a statement at a later time to give a more detail on the issue.

LLG leaders commended for patience, allowance to be paid soon

“I particularly thank the councillors for their understanding during these hard times when the nation is facing cash flow problems caused by unforeseen external factors that are beyond our control,” Dion said.

“Despite non-payment of your lawful allowances, you have maintained the confidence and trust of the people by continuing to provide the leadership required daily at your respective communities.
