K100 Million For SME Loan Scheme

Prime Minister, James Marape made the announcement in a presentation to the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Robin Fleming, before his departure for official state engagements yesterday, Thursday 3 February.

“Our partnership with bank BSP, has worked wonders. We commit for a hundred million every year for ten years so that BSP could have that as added layer of security and lend for Papua New Guineans who want to be in the space of business,” said the Prime Minister.

SME’s remain resilient in slowing economy

The report states that SME performance has seen sales being gradual, investment being modest and employment remaining constant.

This is despite corporates sales performance dropping by 30 per cent on the back of limited foreign direct investment, limited participation in Public Projects, FOREX shortages and hostile compliance rules.

The result of the SME’s resilience will see the sector continue to grow due to their flexibility in adapting and adjusting its business models and the limited requirement on foreign currency.

Central woman eyes garment business

And the 21-year-old Central lass from Marshall Lagoon has made it her intention to complete her training in the field and pursue a business career in the sector.

Nancy is among 32 individuals who graduated in the 27th Garment and Textile Training Program, facilitated by the Small to Medium Enterprises Corporation (SMEC).

She topped three of the four courses offered in the Certificate 1 Program, walking away with prizes in Garment Construction, Screen Printing, and Hand Sewing Machine Repair.
