For a timid and soft spoken personality, Nancy Wari Kila, is a young women focused on tapping into the garment and textile industry.

And the 21-year-old Central lass from Marshall Lagoon has made it her intention to complete her training in the field and pursue a business career in the sector.

Nancy is among 32 individuals who graduated in the 27th Garment and Textile Training Program, facilitated by the Small to Medium Enterprises Corporation (SMEC).

She topped three of the four courses offered in the Certificate 1 Program, walking away with prizes in Garment Construction, Screen Printing, and Hand Sewing Machine Repair.

She also picked up the second spot in Pattern Design.

In her interview with Loop PNG, Nancy could not hold back her tears as she expressed her joy on topping her group.

“I feel happy because my goal is to achieve,” Nancy said while sobbing in between.

“I had no interest in sewing but after going through the training, I realised I have a talent.”

Graduands at the ceremony were challenged by speakers to use the training to tap into the sector which is estimated to be worth around K1.8 billion.

Nancy thanked her teachers and friends for helping her during the course and is focused on completing the program.

“Next year I want to come and do my Certificate Two and then do my business,” she said.

Nancy lives in Gereka, outside Port Moresby, and is married with two children.
