Hungary offers 50 scholarships

This will allow the student to further their studies at various tertiary institutions in Hungary.

Prime Minister James Marape expressed his gratitude and pledged to match this offer with an additional 50 scholarships.

These 50 additional scholarships will be granted to students from the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program, selected from the country's national schools of Excellence.

The announcement came following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders held at Nature Park in Port Moresby.

Eight win Chevening Scholarships

Some of the eight – a record number – received their awards at a send-off lunch hosted by the British High Commissioner, Keith Scott, on 18 August.  Three topped the list of candidates from across the Pacific.

The scholars are John Matlam, Kellyanne Limbiye, Albert Gigmai, Timothy Ngembil, Wilma Mavea, Ian Laki, Hansley Gumbaketi, and James Valakvi.

IBS awards scholarship

They are 21-year-old Maureen Kuna from Southern Highlands and 26-year-old Joanne Konaka from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Miss Kuna enrolled on 23rd March to take up Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (BAF) programme and Miss Konaka enrolled on 17th March to study Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT), at the IBSU Campus, 11-mile.

Both women said they had settled well in their studies and thanked Sir Nades and MPIP PNG for empowering young women through education.

Scholarships help tip the balance for Pacific women

RNZ reports the public sector is the largest single employer of women across the Pacific but the research presented to a Commonwealth gathering in Apia on Wednesday shows they are significantly under-represented in the top jobs.

Papua New Guinea reported only 7 percent of its senior government roles were held by women but Samoa, Tonga and Kiribati were performing well with up to 50 percent, according to Nicole Haley of the Australian National University.

PNG students invited to compete for US scholarship

This is a competition for students all over the world including PNG and is an initiative of the United Nations (UN) and Seton Hall University in the United States.

Finalists with the best ideas will win cash prizes and partial scholarships to attend Seton Hall University, a private Catholic school in South Orange, New Jersey.

The cash prize assists with the launching of the idea or creating awareness about SDGs.

Pageant dishes out K70,000 in scholarships

Funds for the scholarship come from the Pageant sponsors and revenue raised from ticket sales at the Crowning Ball held every year to choose a young woman to represent PNG at the regional pageant.

The scholarship fund has sponsored young women studying to be teachers, nurses, doctors and accountants, amongst others.

It has sponsored students to Divine Word University, University of Technology and other institutions around the country.

The scholarship fund sponsored 18 young women attending the St Therese’s Catholic Teacher’s College outside Port Moresby last year.

Milne Bay students get school fee help

This money is set aside for the Milne Bay Provincial Government scholarship assistance program.

According to data analysis compiled by the Provincial Education Advisor, Roma Tuidam,  632 students will benefit from this funding.

Speaking at the open awareness forum for this program yesterday in Alotau, Governor Philemon told parents to also make it their business and responsibility to take care of the parent component side of the fee structure so that whatever they fall short off, funding like the Provincial government scholarship assistance scheme can assist.
