PJV launches pilot hand wash program for Porgera schools

The awareness which uses soap as a key approach to disease prevention is targeted toward school-aged children who are the most vulnerable to disease outbreaks in the communities.

PJV’s Community Development Section (CDS) under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department facilitated the first hand washing program at the Kairik Primary and Porgera Station Elementary Schools on 26 and 27 October.

PJV awards contract for Porgera Secondary school upgrade

A pre-award meeting was held at the Porgera mine site recently  between the company’s Managing Director Richard McGuinness, Architect James Obilfias, and senior members of the PJV Community Projects and Contracts team.

At the meeting, the contractor confirmed acceptance of the contract and signed relevant documents.

Prior to this, both parties discussed issues relating to requirements for health, safety, environment and other contractual obligations of the contractor.

PJV seeks land tenure for water project

Application LMPA 102 is an application seeking Grant of Tenure at Aipulungu to support a small scale Weir Project, which is expected to assist the Porgera Gold Mine manage water more sustainably during long dry spells.

weir is a barrier across the horizontal width of the river that alters the flow characteristics of the water and usually results in a change in the vertical height of the river level.

PJV reaches 20m oz. in gold productions

The joint venture operation between Barrick Gold Corporation, Zijin Mining Group and Mineral Resources Enga (MRE) Limited, attained the +20 million oz. on Monday (March 6th) after 7,044 ounces were produced for the particular day.

To mark the milestone for the 26 year mine, six of PJVs longest serving employees and a handful of production and processing staff were invited by the PJV management to witness the historic gold pour event.

Harmony to own Newcrest PNG 1

Newcrest PNG 1 Ltd is a 100% owned subsidiary of Newcrest that holds 50% interest in the Hidden Valley Joint Venture including the Hidden Valley mine.

Newcrest in a statement to PomSox announced the agreement of the sales of the entity.

Completion of this sale is conditional upon the receipt of any required South African regulatory approval.

Newcrest has also signed an agreement to sell its 50% interest in certain regional exploration tenements proximate to the Hidden Valley mine to Harmony.

PJV promoting sustainability through training

The Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) training is one such training that BNL has fa­cilitated.

The first in November last year have 60 people gradu­ate with Certificate of Attendance.

The recent, from 31 May to 9 June this year, have 71 people participated.

Many of them were from the co-operatives within the district. 

The training was delivered by Port Moresby-based Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Cor­poration.
