PJV awards contract for Porgera Secondary school upgrade

Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) has awarded Lae-based Company, Hausman Building Solution, the head contractor role for Porgera Secondary school development project valued at K6.1 million.

A pre-award meeting was held at the Porgera mine site recently  between the company’s Managing Director Richard McGuinness, Architect James Obilfias, and senior members of the PJV Community Projects and Contracts team.

At the meeting, the contractor confirmed acceptance of the contract and signed relevant documents.

Prior to this, both parties discussed issues relating to requirements for health, safety, environment and other contractual obligations of the contractor.

The contract for the Porgera Secondary School upgrade is a Turnkey project where the materials and labour including expertise skills will be supplied by the contract company.

“We’re building a 4-in-one classroom, a 64-person dormitory, a new science laboratory, number of staff duplexes, a stand-alone H90 house, and an ablution block,” Mr McGuinness explained.

All buildings be fabricated off-site and delivered.

Hausman Building Solution is specialised in developing educational infrastructure and has undertaken projects in other parts of Enga Province, including Birip, Kandep, Tsak Valley, Pilikambi, Mulitaka, and in Kopen and Wabag High schools as well.

PJV Community Projects Tax Credit Scheme (TCS) Superintendent Derick Kundi said only two contractors put in bids for the project and Hausman Building Solution was the preferred contractor.

“Hausmans building deliverables meets PJV/Department of Works specification and the company has had local experience with qualified technical staff and were within the final bid.
