International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Trukai Backs Community Observe Event

Today, Thursday 2nd December, Trukai was at Porebada to support the Shinning Stars Association in their activities. The company donated 100kg of rice and some merchandise to help villagers celebrate the event, which falls on December 3.

The theme for IDPD 2021 is "Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID 19 world”.

Empowering persons with disability

This year’s theme aligns with part of the 2030 agenda pledges to ‘leave no one behind’.

The Department for Community Development says today’s world population is over 7 billion, and approximately 15 percent live with some form of disability, where 80 percent of them live in developing nations.

In PNG, the estimates of people living with disabilities are 1.2 million and as life expectancy in general increases, persons with disabilities who survive in old age will also increase.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all’. The theme reiterates the 2030 Agenda plea of leaving no one behind and encourages a society that is sustainable and resilient for all.

Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) acknowledges the work done by Pacific Leaders towards transforming the island nations to be sustainable and resilient for all.

It’s today!

The theme for the day is ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all’.

As part of the celebrations, Cheshire has always observed the day in conjunction with the inclusive education’s integration ceremony.

The integration will see about 55 students with – and without – disabilities, including home-based students, graduate formally and integrate into the mainstream schools.

The graduands, while attending the inclusive education, have received training from specialised and trained teachers.

International Day of Persons with Disability

Nearly 1 million Papua New Guineans are living with some form of disability; each of whom will face barriers that prevent their equal participation in society.

PNG and Australia are working together to support disability partner organisations and the people they support.

The focus of Papua New Guinea’s revised National Disability Policy 2015-2025 closely matches this year’s International Disability Day theme: ‘Inclusion matters: Access and Empowerment of People of All Abilities’.
