Duma responds to EMTV saga

Minister Duma said the decision to recruit, train, terminate or discipline EMTV employees are within the jurisdiction of the EMTV executive management. He made these remarks following a question raised by Loop PNG on whether the decision to suspend Dimara was a directive of the current government. 
 

EMTV to broadcast Melanesia Basketball Cup

This comes after signing a partnership agreement with FIBA (The International Basketball Federation).

This partnership was announced by Executive Director of FIBA Oceania, David Crocker, at the unveiling of the official tournament logo and the launching held recently in Port Moresby.

The tournament will be held from 27 – 30 September 2017, with 16 matches total, and has confirmed participation by men’s and women’s teams from New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

PNG Doco driving change in Highlands village

Domil in Jiwaka Province is one of four villages that took on the MDG Acceleration Project, a pilot initiative developed by the EU in 2012 and implemented by UNDP with support from the Department of National Planning and Monitoring.

The success achieved through a collective effort of the locals is highlighted in a documentary "Driving The Change", to premiere tonight.

The documentary features Bernard Gunn - director of the NGO Integral Community Health and Development in Domil.

Youths from democracy camp visit media organisations

The excursion is an activity in line with media, an important topic the week-long camp has covered, among various topics, consistent with the principles of democracy and good governance.

The group of 53 were divided into two, with one group visiting EMTV, a long-time television broadcasting company in PNG, while the other half to PNGFM, a radio broadcasting company.

This excursion was organised with the idea that the youths will see and better understand the media as a tool in development.

EMTV to televise Pacific Test

Chairman of the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL), Sandis Tsaka said EMTV were given the exclusive rights to televise the Pacific Test Rugby League match by the Australian NRL.

“I am happy to announce that Papua New Guineans will be able to watch their beloved PNG LNG Kumuls take on Fiji Batis on their television screens on EMTV,” said Tsaka.

He added that FM 100 will also relay a live radio broadcast if people do not have access to a television set.

Fiji TV ends proposed divestment in PNG

In February a sale and purchase agreement was signed with Telekom PNG where the Fiji TV subsidiary would be sold to the Telecom PNG.

FHL CEO Nouzab Fareed announced both parties have agreed to part from the proposed transaction – this is due to dis-agreement over rights to broadcast NRL matches in PNG.

Fareed said the NRL rights in PNG is now owned by Digicel Pacific.

Meanwhile, Fijian Holdings Limited the parent company of Fiji Television Limited said that there is no redundancy plan for Fiji TV staff.
