Youths from democracy camp visit media organisations

Youths from the Mike Manning Youth Democracy Camp today had the opportunity to visit two media organisations.

The excursion is an activity in line with media, an important topic the week-long camp has covered, among various topics, consistent with the principles of democracy and good governance.

The group of 53 were divided into two, with one group visiting EMTV, a long-time television broadcasting company in PNG, while the other half to PNGFM, a radio broadcasting company.

This excursion was organised with the idea that the youths will see and better understand the media as a tool in development.

Prior to the excursion, PNG Media Council President Alexander Rheeney, in a session, took the students through the role of the media in a democracy.

This topic proved very interesting, with youths asking many questions on issues relating to the media.

“This has been very helpful because understanding the role it plays, as an educated person in Port Moresby, I am able to share the stories of my people so the nation and the world will know what’s happening,” said Getta Kambar, a Grade Nine student at Kopkop College.
