Girls need education to make better decisions: Advisor

NCD Health Services technical advisor women's health, Dr Lutty Amos, made the statement during the commemoration of International Women's Day yesterday.

She said women must be appreciated for playing a big role in juggling motherhood, parenting and work.

Dr Amos was part of a panel of discussion consisting of prominent women in a first-of-its-kind event.

Members in the panel included Ambassador of the United States to PNG, Catherine Ebert-Gray, NCDHS coordinator of district health Dr Joyce Sauk and Lynda Babao O'Neill.

Diabetes growing at alarming rate in PNG

Statistics from the Port Moresby General Hospital and Gerehu confirms the increasing number of new cases since the opening of the Diabetes clinic in July 2013 of which by the end of the first year, 70 new cases were diagnosed.

After two years, more than 200 people are now registered with diabetes in Gerehu and close to half of all adults living with diabetes are unaware of their disease.

“Most of these cases are type 2 diabetes,” says Dr Lutty Amos, President Diabetic Association of PNG.

Bomana CS clinic to host cervical cancer screening

Obstetrics and gynecologist Dr Lutty Amos says that Well Women Team will be at the Bomana CIS health clinic doing more cervical cancer awareness’s whilst screening women who had already registered for today August 15 to Wednesday  17.

“We will be here for the next two weeks in Bomana before moving back to the Moresby South Catchment area,” she says.

 More than 50 women over the past week have gleaned information disseminated by the advocates of Well Women Centre.

Cryotherapy unit set up for NCD women

Located at Lawes Road in Konedobu, the new Well Women Centre that will be run by NCD Health Service received the long-awaited cryotherapy unit. The unit was donated by City Pharmacy Limited and the Malaysian Business Community.

The unit is not yet open to the public but gynaecologist Dr Lutty Amos said they anticipate the opening soon. Two more units will be set up in other major urban clinics in NCD.
