Year of tragedy and triumph

Speaking at the recent ExxonMobil PNG’s Stakeholder Thank you event, Barry said the 2018 February earthquake was the worst disaster he had seen.

Barry said while the PNG LNG project was affected by the earthquake, there were no major injuries. However, many surrounding communities were affected.

He said without the support of partners they would not have been able to attend to them; a role that is still continuing to this day.

Fiscal certainty, negotiations key to LNG expansion

ExxonMobil managing director, Andrew Barry, said both these areas were crucial as the joint venture partners head in to Front End Engineering Design (FEED).

Barry said this during the 2nd Petroleum and Energy Summit in Port Moresby.

Also critical are the various commercial and project discussions and agreements that need to be made before a final investment decision is made.

ExxonMobil brings forward Red Shield Appeal donation

ExxonMobil PNG has brought forward is annual donation to the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal, providing them with advanced funds to purchase urgent supplies needed in the relief efforts.                                                                                         

It is the sixth consecutive year ExxonMobil PNG has supported the Appeal with the funds traditionally being used to assist the Salvation Army to carry out its social services programs in communities in PNG.

Experts to assess damages in Hides

ExxonMobil managing director, Andrew Barry, said they have begun flying in experts to carry out the assessment.

Since Monday the company has shut down its Hides gas conditioning plant, the two LNG trains in Port Moresby, and evacuated non-essential staff at those facilities.

He said the facilities were shut down without any problems.

EMPNG backs Olympic values program

The K231,700 support will ensure the OVEP continues to integrate sporting values and physical activity into a cultural and educational framework, promoting the three Olympic values of respect, friendship and excellence.

Both organisations believe in the power of education to improve the nation.

ExxonMobil PNG has supported OVEP since 2015. The program was extended to other centres in the country, reaching over 3000 students from schools in the Central Province, Port Moresby, Lae, Kimbe, Mendi, Alotau and Mt. Hagen in 2016.

ExxonMobil to develop sections of highway

This follows an agreement with the National Government recently

ExxonMobil Managing Director, Andrew Barry, announced this during the Australia-PNG Business Council Forum in Port Moresby.

The sections to be upgraded include Hanumbu Junction to Goli, then Goli to Komo.

“These sections will be upgraded to national highway standards including two-lane sealed highway, upgrading bridges and crossings where needed, and improving the drainage to help mitigate against water damage to road formations,” Barry said.

​Angore tie-in project to begin

The new 11 kilometre pipeline, including the installation of production equipment at the Angore Well Pad, is the focus for ExxonMobil, says Managing Director Andrew Barry.

Speaking at the recent Australia-PNG Business Council Forum, Barry said following the connection of Well Pad F, which is the highest well pad with an elevation of 2800 metres (which began production this week), this year the focus would be on Angore.

Angore lies east to the Hides Plant.

ExxonMobil aids school with teachers’ houses

The first house was officially opened for the head teacher of Papa Elementary School on Wednesday Sept 1, 2016 at Papa Village.

ExxonMobil believes that education is a fundamental part in giving children the best possible future and ultimately driving continued social and economic development of PNG and as a result, it has invested heavily in education within its workforce and the community it operates in.

Scholarships to benefit students in LNG provinces

The Australia Awards - PNG LNG Scholarships will help to address the rural workforce gap in PNG LNG Project areas and encourage students to complete tertiary studies in the fields of health and education. 

Scholarships in health and education are being offered in select institutions in Papua New Guinea with successful applicants receiving full tuition fees, airfares and living allowances.
