Wau-Waria Count 23 Update

The progressive tally:

  1. Marsh Narewec (PNGDP) – 3,813
  2. Asher Patengi Liuliu (Ind) – 2,189
  3. Rex Mauri (URP) – 2,055
  4. Wayang Kawa (Ind) – 1,952
  5. Levi Wartovo (Future of PNG) – 1,395

The boxes in count 21, 22 and 23 were from:

  • Wau Rural LLG - Wards 13,14 and 17,18 and 19
  • Waria LLG - Wards 9

Ballots yet to be counted are from Waria, wards 10, 15, 16 and 17.

 

Curfew looms for city residents

The National Security Advisory Committee (NSAC) is meeting at 3pm today to discuss not only the Port Moresby issue, but other issues that have disrupted the electoral process right across the country.

Marape will address the nation through a press conference right after the NSAC meeting.

“We are on top of all these issues,” he said.

“By tonight, or tomorrow, there will be a curfew.

“Those who want to continue to cause disturbances to counting, as well as to the innocent society at large, will face the full force of the law.”

Kaupa Update Today

While videos of the violent attacks flooded social media, so did the blame game of who instigated this.

Sitting Member for Port Moresby North East, John Kaupa and his supporters were alleged to have been involved. This morning Kaupa summoned the media to his home to clear his name.

However, the press conference did not eventuate because Kaupa’s supporters who were heavily armed with dangerous weapons, became restless when a fight broke out at the Six Mile market, near his home.

Sinai said the 21-day polling period specified in the electoral writs ended on Friday 22 July with polling completed in 21 provinces across the country. The only exception for polling is in parts of Enga.

Usino Bundi Open starts Counting

Security Contingent Commander for the district, Inspector Edward Alphonse was at the counting venue. He confirmed that counting will start today as all polling in the district are complete.

He said the counting venue will be at the Opotio Rimoru Hall at Walium Stadium. 

Commander Alphonse said security personnel have been deployed to the counting venue to ensure counting is conducted peacefully.

Parkop condemns NCD violence

“It is a very sad day for our capital city and our country. I am shocked to see such grotesque type of violence in the capital of our country and in broad daylight,” Parkop said.

Mr. Parkop was shocked by the public display of violence where men armed with bush knives attacked people on the streets in the vicinity of Vision City and Sir John Guise Stadium at midday yesterday. The scene was captured live on social media. 

Unconfirmed reports said the attackers were supporters of certain candidates in certain electorates in the National Capital District.   

Finsch conducts quality checks

Finschhafen Returning Officer, Fredah Joses, stressed on the need to recheck and confirm their numbers before a formal declaration is made.

Finschhafen Urban was the first LLG to complete counting on Saturday, with only three ballot boxes.

On day two of counting (Sunday, July 24th), Kotte Rural (nine ballot boxes) and Hube (10 boxes) completed primary count at 3pm, while Yabim-Mape (11 boxes) and Burum-Kuat (12 boxes) completed theirs late in the afternoon.

ENB Provincial Nears Declaration

Counting was suspended at 10 last night after the 10th exclusion - with candidate 10 Ronnie Ilam eliminated.
