West New Britain aiming high at netball champs

Team West New Britain are determined to make a mark at the National Gaming Control Board junior national netball championships.

Half of the contingent flew into Port Moresby this morning and rushed straight down to the Rita Flynn netball courts, turning up just before the ending of the opening ceremony.

Coach of the U13 West New Britain team, Margaret Waluka said it had been a bit of a struggle but the girls were looking forward to the next three days of competition.

She said the majority of the girls are from Talasea and have been training very hard for the championships.

"The other half of Team West New Britain will arrive tomorrow morning.

"We have an U13, U15 and U17 team. Our U13 team lost their first game today.

"The girls were a bit nervous playing on the new courts, which are very different to the ones back in Kimbe.

"They're used to playing on the grass back at home.

"We're all happy to be here and are confident we can make the finals," said Waluka.
