Wera to become second most capped Hunters player

Perseverance, discipline and a bit of luck is what has made Adex Wera become second the most capped players for the SP PNG Hunters.

Adex Wera will play his 50th game for the Hunters against the Norths Devils this Saturday at the National Football Stadium.

Wartovo Puara was the first player for the Hunters to play 50 games.

Wera first started his career in rugby league playing for the Yondu Warriors. He then went on to make the Goroka Lahanis squad.

His versatility playing at fullback, winger and centre earned him a spot in the Hunters.

From a mixed parentage of Simbu and Goroka, Wera first made his debut for the Hunters two seasons against the Northern Pride in Australia. Wera played at fullback.

“I enjoy playing in any position but wherever the coach puts me, I listen, stay positive and play hard,” said Wera.

The 25-year-old went on to say how lucky he has been not to receive any serious injuries in his career so far.

“I never used to wear any mouthguard during games in the Intrust Super Cup for about two seasons until after one game, Noel Zeming got one of his teeth knocked out.

“I started wearing a mouth guard and headgear in every game after that,” laughed Wera.

Wera said he is excited and looking forward to this Saturday.

“I was under some doubt for this weekend’s game but I’ve pulled through and can’t wait to get out there,” said Wera.

Wera’s representative duties include making the 2013 and 2014 Prime Minister’s XIII side and playing for the Kumuls team that beat Tonga in 2014.
