U18 basketball championships exceeded all expectations

Basketball Federation of PNG, Executive Officer, Joel Khalu said the U18 national championships exceeded all expectations.

Khalu, who was also the tournament director made these remarks at last night’s presentation after the men’s and women’s grand final.

“Being the first Under 18 National Championships that BFPNG have held in a very long time, going in we weren’t really sure how good the level of competition was going to be.

“Over the four days, we saw that the standard was high-quality in both the men’s and women’s divisions and people walked away from the event wanting to see more.

“The men’s championship game was particularly fun for spectators to watch, especially when it really could have gone either way.

“Overall it just shows the amazing basketball talent that we have throughout Papua New Guinea and following the success of this tournament, the Federation is excited about its plans to host both Under 17 & Under 15 National Championships in 2017,” said Khalu.
