NSI to host Highlands Athletics Championships

The 2016 BSP Highlands Athletics Championships is set for this month at the National Sports Institute (NSI) in Goroka from November 25-27.

Organizing Committee Chairman Saio Avefa thanked BSP for their support once again for supplying T-shirts to venue official’s and athletic gears to run the championships.

Chairman Avefa confirmed the teams to participate which are; Team Enga, Team WHP, Team Jiwaka, five teams from Chimbu that includes Team Mt Wilhelm, Team Kunabau, Team Ku High School, Team Barigigle and Team Mai High School.

Invitation is open for provincial teams, athletics clubs and schools in the highlands region to participate.

Team Madang and senior athletes camping in Lae are hoping to attend as well.

The championship will be an opportunity for Highlands Provinces to prepare for the PNG Games in March next year where provinces in the Highlands can have quality competition before going to Kimbe.

Team Eastern Highlands athletes are selected for the PNG Games from Team Unggai Bena, Team Obura Waninara and most Secondary and High Schools including St Don Bosco Namaro Primary will also take part to prepare for the upcoming PNG Games next year.

The divisions to compete are U14 for sprint events only, U16, U18 and open for both male and female divisions with strictly three athletes per event for each team.

Registration fee per team is K100 to participate.
