Madang town mayor supports touch football

Madang Town Mayor Joe Yama sponsored the 2015 Rugby Touch Tournament with K5,000 which saw 28 teams convene in Laiwarden Oval rubbing shoulders with each other, while showing talents.

He says Madang has produced great rugby touch players who have represented Madang, and the country as a whole.

Yama says the aim of him funding rugby touch is to bring back the touch spirit in the district and province.

He says his commitment of K10, 000 this year is to revive the Madang touch association and he will appoint an interim executive to help develop touch footy

He says that with successfull completion of the 2015 touch tournament “I see that youths involve more in touch with a proven record of 28 teams than other sporting codes’’.

He says he has put money aside and once the interim executives are ready, they will get the money and start running touch games in the district. Teams that wish to take part must register.

Yama says that the aim of reviving touch footy  in the province is to help the youths stay out of illegal activities and participate in sports to keep them busy and make them excel in sport.

He says that the PNG Games in West New Britain is coming up this year and the teams taking part will be in a better position to be selected to represent Madang.

He urges teams, fans and players who are thinking of participating to get together and register their teams once the executives issue the date and start playing touch football.
