Madang PHA observes World Breastfeeding Week

The PHA has been conducting awareness activities throughout the week. 

Health Promotion Officer, Bernadette Imbosi, said the aim of the promotional activities is to encourage and promote the best practice of infant feeding – breastfeeding.

The promotional or health awareness on breastfeeding focuses on awareness through radio and awareness at several health facilities, which started on Monday at the Madang General Hospital’s children’s outpatient and will continue throughout the week. 

UNFPA renews Calls to Invest in Women’s Health

According to the latest estimates released by the UN, every two minutes a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth. 

The report, Trends in Maternal Mortality, reveals alarming setbacks for women’s health over recent years. The report, which tracks maternal deaths nationally, regionally and globally from 2000 to 2020, shows there were an estimated 287 000 maternal deaths worldwide in 2020. This marks only a slight decrease from 309, 000 in 2016 when the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) came into effect.
