He is based at the USP   Samoa Campus.   

Professor Ahluwalia was re-selected to this position by the USP Council. The USP Council had agreed to offer Professor Ahluwalia a new contract following its meeting on 2 June, 2021. 

Before joining the University, Professor Ahluwalia held leadership positions at the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom and at the University of South Australia respectively.  

He has a PhD in Politics from Flinders University and a Master and Bachelor of Arts from the 

At a press conference held in Port Moresby, University Chancellor, Joe Wemin said the decision of the Minister to appoint Dr Waninga as Acting VC confirms with the laws of this country. 

He said the Minister is empowered by the Higher Education Act to revoke and appoint.

“The court decision today reflects that the minister did not make any mistake. He did not change the management by the council because he wants to do for the sake of KT management. The court upheld the decision made by the Minister,” Mr Wemin said.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s Chief of Staff, George Bopi formally welcomed Professor John Michael Warren with his wife at the Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby on Monday.

Bopi was the former Pro Chancellor of the University who chaired the recruitment of Professor Warren.

He has since resigned from the position after he was appointed the Chief of Staff.

He said Professor Warren is the suitable person to manage and run the PNG UNRE to move the university forward with its core programs.
