USNS Mercy docks in Philippines after PNG tour

While in Roxas City, medical staff aboard Mercy will perform surgical procedures and will host community health engagements, and also provide direct care in seven locations throughout the province of Capiz. In addition to medical care, PP15 personnel will work and train side-by-side with the community on civic service events, safety topics, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, water search and rescue, veterinarian care, and community outreach projects.

Mercy completes mission in Papua New Guinea for Pacific Partnership

RABAUL, Papua New Guinea (July 11, 2015) The hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) completed its 14-day mission to Papua New Guinea July 10 for Pacific Partnership 2015, after working with host nation military, government and healthcare professionals and community leaders to improve disaster relief response capabilities in the region.

The mission was conducted in two locations – the town of Arawa, in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, and in and around the city of Rabaul, in the province of East New Britain.

Key to Rabaul handed to USNS Mercy

The presentation was witnessed by commanding officer Captain Melanie Merrick during a welcome ceremony held on board the floating hospital.

Manuai welcomed the USNS Mercy and her personnel to ENBP on behalf of the Member for Rabaul Dr Allan Marat, Governor Ereman Tobaining Jnr and the provincial government and wished them a pleasant and memorable stay in Rabaul.

He thanked them on behalf of the people of Rabaul for the gesture of kindness they were giving the people.
