Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson officially become Greek citizens

The couple posed for a picture with their new passports alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife.

The PM posted the picture on Instagram on Saturday. Hanks and Wilson "are now proud Greek citizens", he wrote.

Greek media said the meeting took place on Paros, an island in the Aegean Sea.

Hanks, Wilson and their children were granted honorary Greek citizenship last year for their role in bringing attention to a devastating wildfire near Athens in July 2018.

Tom Hanks helps man propose to girlfriend

On Saturday, the two-time Oscar winner was at a talk about his new book, Uncommon Type: Some Stories, and at the end of the event, the superstar had a question-and-answer session that ended in his helping a man propose to his unsuspecting girlfriend, Nikki Young.

During the Q&A, Hanks read out a question from a man named Ryan McFarling: "Here's Ryan's question, and it's for Nikki Young..."Nikki, will you marry me?"

Sully, in which Tom Hanks plays Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, will premiere later on Friday at the Colorado event.
