Genevieve Roberts was crowned Miss PNG in 2006 at the age of 23. She was a teacher at Goroka Grammar School then. She comes from a mix parentage of Milne Bay and Bougainville.  As a young girl, it was always her dream to become a lawyer. Genevieve took the long way around. Her journey to reach her goal started with a flight to the University of Goroka to undergo a teaching degree.

In 2006, Genevieve graduated from UOG with a Bachelor of Education. After working for 10 years, she enrolled at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) in 2016 to commence Law studies.

School teacher, Justin Mageru, was team manager for Sewiri Seeds, who took part in the first leg of the Satellite Rugby Union 7s tournament.

He was managing the team because he supported the idea of empowering the youth of South Fly District, Western Province.

Mageru said one too many times, he had seen youths being ignored or left out of active participation in the development of the district and province, and hopes that sports can change that.

After graduating from Gaulim at the end of 1979, the list of ENB Schools that he taught in are, Tudungan 1980, Rabagi 1981 to 1987, Tamanairik 1988, Nangananga 1989, Tavui 1990 to 1997, Vudal 1998 to 2001, Waterhouse 2002, Kabagap 2003 to 2005 and Kalamanagunan 2006 to 2020.

Mr Petelo was tasked to set up what is now known as Rabagi Primary School as a one-man teacher school in 1981 in only his second year of teaching.

Victoria Buchanan is thought to have ingested the drug after realising it was in her possession while waiting to fly home to Dubai in March last year.

Moments later she collapsed and was taken to hospital where she died.

Assistant coroner Andrew Bridge concluded her death was by misadventure.

Mrs Buchanan, 42, originally from Kilmarnock, Scotland, had moved to Dubai in 2010 and worked as a teacher in the United Arab Emirates, Manchester Coroner's Court heard.

The late Sam Gawi, from Ialibu, was viciously attacked and killed on Tuesday, April 3.

The nine-member group made up of his immediate relatives, including two pastors, said they only went to Madang to repatriate the body of their loved one.

They had gone down to request that the head of their relative be returned for them to carry out a decent burial.

The deceased is Julie Tokam, wife of the former police and correctional services commissioner Henry Tokam.

Julie passed on at the Angau Memorial Hospital (Lae) last week after an illness.

Her body was taken in a convoy to Wandi village, 5km west of Kundiawa, on Sunday.

Thousands of mourners from within the district and the neighbouring Jiwaka Province have arrived in Wandi since Monday to pay their last respect.

Late Julie was laid to rest yesterday while the Narku tribe will host a feast to commemorate her death later this week.

“We really need the Government to look into teachers’ salary. What most teachers are receiving, I personally feel that it’s not enough,” said the lower primary section head of Koki Primary School, Joephine Solok.

The Grade 5E teacher, who has been in the profession for 32 years, told Loop PNG on Tuesday: “Teachers’ housing should also be considered, even though it is not a condition.
