ENB officials urged to work together

Amidst the current social issues instigated mainly by some youths in a number of wards in the province, and when reflecting on the clergy’s message at the opening of the 2023 LLG Leaders Conference in Kokopo this week, Acting ENB Provincial Administrator, Levi Mano, said communities need to be empowered.

“Empowerment can only be achieved through teamwork. If we cannot work together and share our resources, then we cannot achieve anything. Working together means recognising the capabilities of others,” he said.

Health awareness promoted

The Southern Region 9s tournament has provided an avenue for promoting social issues such as HIV/AIDS, Violence Against Women and Girls, including general medical checks.

Tournament organisers said, “It is our responsibility to show respect to women and girls as partners in life and communities.”

Yama discourages removal of settlers

He said not all settlers are involved in creating law and order problems in the province.

Yama made the statement following the decapitation of a teacher from Ialibu, Southern Highlands Province, on April 3, which caused a series of confrontations, including protests against squatters and opportunists.

The Madang Governor is against making rushed decisions that will affect the province in the future.

Programme aims to help youths make a positive decision

The integrated mixed martial arts club in Port Moresby has taken the initiative to address this population.

“Why not? Nobody else is doing it…” said Jamie Pang when asked by Loop PNG why he chose to.

Pang is working together with Lawrence Tau from the National Youth Development (NYDA) to impact youth for a positive change.

The first under this program was a visit to the Bomana prison last week, to talk to juvenile inmates about drugs, alcohol, homebrew, sexual violence and cult activities.
