Salamaua Provincial High School

OC visits Salamaua high

Male students had turned the ablution facilities into temporary bedrooms following the burning down of two male dormitories in 2021.

After seeing an article on the situation, Chief Ombudsman, Richard Pagen, met with the Morobe Provincial Government and administration in late 2022 and directed them to resolve the situation.

Speaking during the OC’s second visit to Salamaua Provincial High on Friday, April 14th, Morobe Provincial Administrator, Max Brutan, said though he had only taken office in October 2022, the responsibility fell on him to source funding.

Tough Stance On Discipline

Head teacher, Norman Apul said the school rules were clearly stated in the forms and by signing them, the 740 students have agreed that if they are found to be in breach of a rule, they can be dismissed.

The new management’s tough stance follows the burning down of school infrastructure by intoxicated students in November last year.

“We already executed our decision by suspending and terminating two students already,” he stated.

“Because we don’t want the same incident to happen, we are tough on discipline, and we’re all speaking the same language.

Salamaua High Back On Course

It was no secret that Salamaua Provincial High School was a problem school in Morobe’s Huon Gulf district.

In recent years, the school was plagued with cult activities, intoxicated students who freely damage school infrastructure and the burning down of two male dormitories in 2021.

Established in 1995 at Kela village, the school sits atop an in incline overlooking the pristine waters of the Morobean coastline.
