Kenya's high court declares move to close the world's largest refugee camp illegal

The decision that eases pressure on Somalis who feared the camp would close by the end of May.

Kenya's Internal Security Minister abused his power by ordering the closure of Dadaab camp, Judge John Mativo said, adding that the Minister and other officials had "acted in excess and in abuse of their power, in violation of the rule of law and in contravention of their oaths of office."

Seven people have died in Dadaab, in northern Kenya near the border with Somalia, since the outbreak was declared in November, the medical charity Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, said in a statement.

In the last three weeks, more than 300 patients have been admitted to treatment centers, and 30% of those patients were children under 12, according to MSF.
