The Penrith Panthers proved too good for PNG Hunters, posting a dominant 42-18 win in their Intrust Super Championship game in Sydney on Sunday.

The win was set up by the Panthers in the first half, with the Hunters putting in a performance they would rather forget.

It took the SP PNG Hunters 38 minutes to score their first try through centre Adex Wera, who crossed over in the corner for the first of 3 tries for the Hunters.

Hunters’ right centre Bland Abavu, who went into this game hungry to put a try to his name, did so with a try in the corner.

The Intrust Super Premiership NSW winners raced away to the lead after 16 minutes, thanks to three tries from centre Tony Satini.

It was all one way traffic with the Hunters struggling to stop the onslaught. Tries came from Darren Nicholls and Viliame Kikau and one to Jarome Luai.

The Hunters’ only points came off the boot of captain Ase Boas, who kicked a penalty goal.

Satini was not done yet and scored his fourth of the match right on the half-time siren to take the score out to 38-2.

The visitors were simply blown away by Trent Barrett's side in all areas of the game and were forced to save their season at the backend with a 28-0 scoreline getting close to the 37-point margin they needed to avoid to cement their place in the top eight.

May barged his way over by the posts with just seven minutes remaining to effectively clinch a spot in the Finals for the Panthers, with Canberra – who eliminated Penrith in the semi-finals last year – now needing to win their last two fixtures and rely on results elsewhere going their way to do the same.
