Police flying in for Goilala by-election

According to the Electoral Commission Office, the police will be sent with 39 polling teams that will 139 officials.

Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen says that all teams are set to be air-lifted by chopper to their locations by Friday morning with some already there.

Meantime, NCD/Central police commander Jerry Frank tells PNG Loop that he and a contingent of officers will also be flying to the polling sites by tomorrow to observe operations.

Detectives learn about new laws

After six weeks of intense learning, they are more comfortable with the changes in the legislation.

Course manager and OIC of the Detective Training School at Bomana, Inspector Joe Koi said one of those Acts is the Sexual Offences Act.

"Course participants have learnt the changes to those Acts and are familiar with them. It was incorporated into the existing Act," he said.

He said with reference to the Sexual Offences Act, one can testify without corroboration, especially the victims of sexual offences.

Baki foreshadows command changes

Commissioner Baki tells PNG Loop that this shift of command is to reflect strategic operational needs as part of his intention  to prepare the Royal PNG Police constabulary for major events after the 2015 Pacific Games such as the upcoming 2017 elections and 2018 APEC meeting.

Baki says that ideally the posting period for the provincial police commanders should be between 3 to 4 years. In that way officers can exercise command but refrain from being too stagnant and lose focus on their operation duties as commanders.
