Solomon Islands Hunters send out warning to PNG Pukpuks

Solomon Islands have yet to register a win in this tournament having lost to American Samoa and Tahiti.

The Pukpuks are undefeated and on top of the table.

But this doesn’t faze captain, Fredson Soakai who guarantees they will cause an upset this weekend.

Boasting one of the biggest forward packs in the tournament, Soakai says this is where the game will be won.

“We know what the Pukpuks are capable of. We’ve watched them play and we’ve picked out their weaknesses.

“It won’t be an easy game for PNG. I guarantee you that."

The Pukpuks are on 10 points so far picking up a bonus point in each game for scoring four tries.

Three of the Pukpuks eight tries scored in both games have gone to the current leading try scorer- Jacky Marcus.

The Pukpuks have also been equally impressive in terms of discipline having received neither a yellow or red card.

Oceania Rugby Tournaments Coordinator, Lemalu Wayne Schuster said this year’s tournament has seen a huge improvement in the standard of playing from all four countries.

The Pukpuks now have a clear lead on the points table being the only undefeated team out of four at the 2015 Oceania Rugby Cup.

Carrying on from their form from the first half, the Pukpuks added two more tries with the second going to former Agmark Gurias star, Jacky Marcus.

American Samoa salvaged some pride with a late try to bring some respectability to the scoreline.

The Pukpuks will play their last match this Sunday against the Solomon Islands Hunters.

Solomon Islands to take on Tahiti in round 2

Both teams are coming off losses in their first games last Saturday and will be desperate for a win this afternoon.

Solomon Island’s captain, Fredson Soakai said Saturday’s 30-15 loss to American Samoa came as a shock to them.

“We had a communication break down during that game and we relaxed too much after taking an early lead. This allowed American Samoa to get back into the game.

“But we’ve gone through our game plan. We’ve taken the positives and negatives from the first game and will do better in this game,” said Soakai.
