NGI Super 9s for next month

The 20 participating teams will do battle from January 26-28, 2018.

The NGI Super 9s is an annual event from which only the best are drafted into the Agmark Rabaul Gurias train-on squad.

There will be a total of K85,000 in prize money up for grabs during the three-day tournament.

1st place: K50,000

2nd place: K20,000

3rd place: K10,000

4th place: K5,000

Registration is K3,300 per team and will close on January 12, 2018.

NGI Super 9s to kick off tomorrow

Tournament coordinator, Steven Nightingale said 16 teams are confirmed to take part. The teams have been spilt into two pools.

This includes for the first time teams from Port Moresby, Maprik, Lihir and Brisbane.

“In the past, we have had teams from Kavieng, Kimbe and Buka only,” said Nightingale.

The tournament starts tomorrow and will end with the finals on Sunday.

 “The way the finals will work is the top three of both pools will advance to the finals on Sunday and there will be six games in the finals to determine the champions,” said Nightingale.

14 teams confirmed for NGI Super 9s

The tournament will run from January 20-22 at Kalabond Oval and is being coordinated by Agmark Gurias coach, Steven Nightingale.

The final number of teams will be released by next Monday, with the draws to be sent out the following day.

Teams from outside centres that will be taking part include the Port Moresby City Punishers and Maprik United.

The prize money for the tournament:
1st (K40,000)
2nd (K12,000)
3rd (K5,000)
4th (K3,000)

Maprik United ready to face the best at NGI Super 9s

The team left Madang yesterday by bus to Lae. They will leave for East New Britain today where the 9s tournament will staged.

Coach of Maprik United and former Agmark Gurias player, Bradley Simon said his team has been hard at training and are looking forward to the challenge.

“The boys had a training session at Divine Word University on Wednesday afternoon and the boys are ready to go against the best.

“We will have the weekend off after a week of travelling and we’ll be back in training on Monday leading up to the tournament weekend.
