Goroka terminal upgrade progressing

Project officers from the National Airports Corporation shared details of construction of the new airport terminal recently with TVWAN news.

The project is among other airport projects overseen by the NAC and co-financed by the Asian Development Bank and the PNG Government.

The airport program costs K89 million and includes the airport terminal, an extension of the runway and new powerhouse.

PNG Air resumes services into Goroka

Chief Commercial Officer Paul Abbot thanked the National Airports Corporation’s swift reaction.

 Abbot said they “reacted swiftly to resolve the issue of runway damage and made the repairs necessary to allow for safe and ongoing operations”.

The airline cancelled its Goroka flights last week because it felt that the damaged runway poses a significant safety threat to ongoing operations.

In an interview with Loop PNG, Managing Director of Kemele Constructions, Firman Joseph, said when local companies do not implement projects correctly, it becomes a setback for many PNG companies.

On Friday, Joseph signed an K8.54 million project with the National Airports Corporation (NAC) to implement an Asian Development Bank funded fencing and associated works contract at the Buka Airport.

And he says they will work hard to deliver the project on time and meet global standards so that other PNG companies can benefit.

Aviation Safety and Security conference on in Kokopo

Civil Aviation Minister Davis Steven highlights these as among the many challenges that face the aviation industry, including increasing concern over the environmental impact of aviation overall.

His remarks were made this morning at the opening of a high level aviation safety and security conference taking place at the Gazelle International in Kokopo, East New Britain.
