Telefomin Farewells Educator

News of her retirement has been received with sadness by Member for Telefomin, Solan Mirisim.

Glenda Giles came to Oksapmin Valley upon the invitation of the local people, who started what was known as Oksapmin High School in 2007 and taught until her retirement.

The New Zealander was instrumental in the setup of the junior high school, which eventually grew into a secondary school that has produced extraordinary results placing Oksapmin Secondary School in the top 10 performing schools this year.

Justice Les Gavera-Nanu handed down the decision yesterday, Thursday 2nd December, 2021.

The Member, who went before a leadership tribunal since July 2021, has been cleared from 21 charges for alleged failure to declare annual statements to the Ombudsman Commission.

He pleaded guilty to one charge for providing incorrect dates of birth for his spouse and children on the annual statements.

Mirisim Cleared Of Multiple Charges

The Tribunal members consisting Justice Les Gavara Nanu, Magistrate Josephine Kilage and Magistrate Mark Selefkariu made the ruling last Wednesday, 17th of November at the Waigani National Court.

Mirisim was slapped with 22 charges for misconduct in office. Of these charges, he pleaded guilty to one charge, where he provided incorrect dates of birth for his spouse and children on his annual statements.

Patrol posts to beef up border security

The Defence Minister and Member for Telefomin Solan Mirisim, PNGDF Commander Brigadier General, Gilbert Toropo and Customs Commissioner, Ray Paul flew into Tumolbil village in Yapsie LLG to launch the new patrol post site.

An official ground breaking ceremony was held to welcome the high profile delegation into the border village.                

Tumolbil village is one of the remotest parts of PNG villages situated right on the border with Indonesia and the Telefomin district. 

Hundreds of villages turned up in numbers to welcome the delegation.
