K180.5 million Manus budget approved

Manus Governor Charlie Benjamin presented the budget. It included the Manus District Development Authority Budget and budgets for his twelve local level governments to comply with Section 105A of the Organic Law on Provincial and Local Level Government.

Governor Benjamin said he was thankful to the Prime Minister and National Government for the 2024 Budget allocations for Service Improvement Program grants and functional grants to his province, including infrastructure funding under the Connect PNG Program for the Manus Highway.

NFA Visits Holona Market

The Holona Fishing Cooperative Society Ltd of Pak Island, Hahai Village Ward 2 in the Rapatona LLG of Lorengau, Manus Province has been facing issues with the Fisheries Aggregated Device (FAD) and their fisheries businesses.

The officials of NFA and invited delegates traveled rough seas to Pak Island shores to deliver a need that is hoped to impact the people for the better.

More arrests on Manus Fisheries funds misuse

This follows arrests made in April and on June 1 against two other senior public servants in the province.

Project officer with Division of Fisheries, Kanawi Pomat (42), of M’Bunai village in the Penabu Nalisopat LLG, and Provincial Fisheries Officer with the Division of Fisheries Paul Mangeu (61) of Worei village, Tetidu LLG, were arrested this week.

They were charged with Abuse of Public Office and Official Corruption by members of Port Moresby based Fraud squad team.
