He wasn't the smartest, most successful or strongest, but Chandler Bing was an underdog we loved

Matthew Perry's take on Chandler Bing — the quippy, sarcastic roommate — gave us an iconic and much-loved character.

Chandler wasn't the most sensitive, the strongest or the most successful character on Friends. He hovered somewhere in the middle — and that was his appeal.

The character became synonymous with Perry, who was found dead on the weekend aged 54, with none of his future roles breaking through the long shadow of his hit character.

Friends actor James Michael Tyler dies age 59

Tyler died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, a statement from his manager said.

"If you met him once you made a friend for life," it said. "[He] is survived by his wife, Jennifer Carno, the love of his life."

Tyler was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2018 which later spread to his bones.

"Wanting to help as many people as possible, he bravely shared his story and became a campaigner for those with a prostate to get a... blood test as early as 40 years old," his manager said.

Courteney Cox's Friends are there for her in coronavirus isolation

Cox told TV host Jimmy Kimmel she remembered very little about the hit sitcom in which she played Monica for a decade.

"People love the show so much, I decided to binge watch Friends... it's really good!" she said via video link.

"I don't remember even being on the show, I have such a bad memory."

She added: "I remember obviously loving everybody there and having fun and I remember certain times of my life I was there, but I don't remember episodes."

The report comes as the loved show continues to celebrate it's 25th anniversary and amid ongoing hopes from fans that the cast will one day reprise their iconic characters.

Producer says 'never' to 'Friends' reunion movie

"NINE TO FIVE" MAYBE, 'FRIENDS' NEVER

Dolly Parton may reunite someday with her "Nine to Five" movie co-stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin on the pair's Netflix series "Grace & Frankie," but not yet.

Executive producer Marta Kauffman said it's too early in the life of the Netflix drama, which begins its second season in May.

"The minute you bring Dolly Parton - who I love, by the way - it's 'Nine to Five'" and viewers will be taken out of the world of "Grace & Frankie," Kauffman said.
