Parkop commends residents for peaceful campaigning

Sitting Governor for the National Capital District, Powes Parkop, said it was a long, challenging and tiring campaign for the candidates and the people have done well in keeping it relatively peaceful.

Parkop thanked all residents for the successful campaign period and said it showed a sign of progress and being more civil during the elections.

“I’m very confident that the election will continue to be peaceful in the nation’s capital.

Candidates must have respect for community

NCD Metropolitan police commander Ben Turi stated this when he called on all NCD regional and open intending candidates to abide by rules and regulations during the election period.Turi spoke with Loop PNG about election operations in place, in anticipation of the start of nominations this Thursday (April 20) in the nation’s capital.

He made special mention on the scrutineers and supporters that frequent the streets in trucks with loud hailers, calling on them to be mindful of the times that they carry out this form of campaigning.

Canada PM triggers election with vote in October

Analysts say the election is a toss-up and Harper faces an uphill battle to form another majority government. If Harper wins he would become the first prime minister since 1908 to win four consecutive elections.

The prime minister dissolved Parliament Sunday in a visit to the governor-general, who serves as Canada's formal but mostly ceremonial head of state.
