Grease causing sewerage blockage: Officer

Eda Ranu chief operating officer, Dr Fifaia Matainaho told Loop PNG that many blockages occur near kai bars and business houses because of the disposal of wastes containing greasy substances.

“Many of these wastes come as liquid but there is grease with it, and because the pipe is underground, it’s cold and gets solidified,” Dr Matainaho said.

“It (waste) builds up and gets blocked; there is no way to come out so it comes out the manhole.”
