Mioks stomp over Wigmen

The Mioks hit the front after five minutes through a penalty converted by halfback Jeffrey Para Saturday afternoon at the National Football Stadium.

Former SP Hunters playmaker, Roger Laka was instrumental having a hand in two tries scored to put the Mioks out to a 12-0 lead by half-time.

The Wigmen narrowed the score to 12-4 midway through the second half when they went wide sending Ian Maliaba over to score.

But this was all from the Wigmen as Mioks scored two more times through Levai Bobby and Junior Bobby to set up an easy win.

Ipswich place trust in Wigmen

This follows the announcement on Tuesday of a partnership between the Hela Wigmen Club and Ipswich Jets which will see four players from Hela, train and play with the Intrust Super Cup Club.

Ipswich Jets CEO, Jason Cubit, told Loop PNG that under the current arrangement, the Hela Wigmen management will identify and provide them with the right players.

Cubit also said they will provide them with other opportunities off the field.

Hela Wigmen get K1.8 m sponsor

 

The sponsorship package includes K1.2 million from Kroton Limited, a subsidiary of Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited (KPHL), includes naming rights to the team who will now be known as the Kroton Limited Hela Wigmen Rugby League Team.

This will cover affiliation fees for the 2017 Digicel Cup Competition (K500,000), the development of a club training infrastructure (K500,000) and an Ambassadorial program with the Ipswich Jets club in the Queensland, Australia (K200,000).

The Hela Provincial Government also has provided K600,000 to the Club for this year.

Snax Tigers name 25-man squad for Digicel Cup opener

Coach Stanley Tepend announced the final squad yesterday which comprises a handful of young talents from the Lae School Boys rugby.

Tepend also maintained the services of former Kumuls David Loko, Roy Kela and Sydney Fred to lead the pack.

Play makers Charles Martin, Pasu Awene, Robert Vuai and Charlie Simon make up the starting lineup. The Digicel Cup season kicks off this Sunday.
