Staff trained on cyber threat

Cyber CX is the leading provider of professional cyber security services across the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand. 

With the rapid increase of internet users in PNG, Cyber security is essential to raise awareness and equip both staff and internet users overall.

Taking necessary cyber precautionary measures is crucial to safeguarding personal information and valuable data, especially for public servants and trusted experts in fields like superannuation.

PNG engaged in cybercrime talks

Participants included the UN General Assembly and multi-stakeholders from around the world. These are non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector, as ICT issues are not the sole domain of governments.

This international effort aims to create a comprehensive legal framework for combating cybercrime, a growing threat with significant implications for PNG’s development and national security.

DICT seeks CSP services

The request is to explore potential solutions for the Government Leased Cloud Infrastructure (GLCI). In addition, enhance the delivery of digital services to Papua New Guineans and businesses in the country.

The scope of the RFI includes several critical aspects that the interested CSPs must address;

1. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Providers are expected to present their IaaS offerings and demonstrate how they align with the government’s overarching objectives in adopting cloud technologies.

ICT NGI workshop underway

This is because the province, through the Provincial Executive Council (PEC), recently endorsed an ICT program to get all government agencies online.

Speaking on day one of the meeting, which was held at the Gazelle International Hotel yesterday (Tuesday 18th July), ENB Deputy Provincial Administrator for Corporate Services, Marakan Uvano, said the ICT policies being discussed are aimed at harnessing the potential of ICT in making PNG become a smart and knowledgeable society. 

ICT Workshop unveils effective strategies

Officials from key government departments attend the workshop hosted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Key stakeholders including the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council (PMNEC), Department of Treasury, Department of Commerce and Industry, along with representatives from the PNG Digital ICT Cluster and the Cluj IT - TYPO3 Association from Romania.

GOVPNG Tech Stack unveiled

It aims to revolutionize digital transformation in PNG, setting the stage for a cost-effective, streamlined, and measurable approach to accelerate the country’s digitalization agenda.

Steven Matainaho, Secretary for the Department of Information, Communication and Technology (DICT), shared that the adoption of a technology stack approach is crucial to PNG’s digital transformation journey.

“The importance of a stack approach is that it promotes the use of interoperable, generic, and reusable building blocks to digitalize any service,” said Matainaho.

Clusterization Policy Development in process

The workshop’s objective to discuss the development of a framework on the National ICT Clusterization policy and strategy. ICT Clusterization aim is to create an environment that fosters knowledge sharing, networking, and synergies among ICT companies and stakeholders.

Deputy Secretary for Policy and Emerging Technology, Flierl Shongol, presented the overview of the policy, its expectations and goals during the workshop. He stated that the primary objective of the policy is to enable digital transformation in PNG under the Digital Government Act 2022.

Exciting MoU towards digital governance

According to the Secretary of DICT, Steven Matainaho, the signing done earlier last week was to promote closer mutual cooperation, consultation and exchange of technical assistance aligned to the digital framework.

PNG partners with World’s most advanced digital society

Estonia is known as the world’s most advanced digital society.

The Estonian Ambassador to Australia and the Pacific, Her Excellency, Kersti Eesmaa, paid a courtesy visit to PNG. She was received by Minister of ICT, Timothy Masiu.

Eesmaa is Ambassador to Australia, and accredited to Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu. Ambassador Eesmaa was accompanied by the European Union (EU) Ambassador to PNG, His Excellency Jacques Fradin.
